Hunahpú and Ixbalanqué

Hunahpú and Ixbalanqué , also called the Hero Brothers or the Divine Twins , are two main characters of the holy book Popol Vuh of the Quiché - Maya in Guatemala . The legend and cult of the twins were widespread throughout the Maya area.

Legend

The twins were conceived by HunHunahpú and Ixquic. After numerous experiences and a descent into the underworld , where they won the fight against the lords of death , defeating the houses of gloom, knives, cold, jaguars, fire and bats and the gods there in a ball game , both became im Self-sacrifice to the sun and moon. At Chichen Itza , a place of worship found this hero brothers.
