XenForo is a software solution for web forums written in the PHP scripting language . XenForo has been developed since 2010 by former chief developers of the vBulletin forum software.

history

XenForo was launched in July 2010 by former vBulletin developers Kier Darby and Mike Sullivan. At the end of July 2010 they presented the first alpha version of their new forum software. The sales start for the new forum software was on October 5th, 2010. Since November 7th, 2010 a German language package has also been available. The first stable version of XenForo was released on March 8, 2011.

Emergence

One of the developers at XenForo, Kier Darby, originally served as the lead developer for the vBulletin community platform. The original owner of the software, Jelsoft, was bought by the American media company Internet Brands in 2007. There were disagreements between the leading developers and new management over the next major release of vBulletin 4.0.

While the team wanted to program a complete rewrite of the platform, Internet Brands insisted on continuing development on the existing code. These internal conflicts led most of the vBulletin developers to discontinue working with Internet Brands in 2009.

A new team was formed from former vBulletin developers. Work began on a new platform known as XenForo .
