The hijacking of Flight 8301
The Xiamen Airlines flight 8301 (B-2510) started at 06:57 from Xiamen airport . Shortly after take-off, 21-year-old Jiang Xiaofeng went to the cockpit and said he had seven kilograms of explosives on his body and that the plane should fly to Taiwan because he wanted to seek political asylum there. On Jiang's orders, everyone except the captain and himself left the cockpit and radio contact was broken off. For unexplained reasons, however, the captain Cen Longyu did not comply with the request to fly to Taiwan, and instead flew on to the southwest.
Radio contact with the machine was only restored when it was in the catchment area of the Guangzhou air traffic control. This gave Cen permission to land anywhere - including Taiwan. Because the Boeing 737 no longer had enough fuel to reach Taiwan at this point, the captain wanted to land in Hong Kong , but Jiang threatened to detonate the explosives if it landed there. When the amount of fuel reached a critical point, the captain decided to land at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport (old) .
The catastrophe
At around 9:04 am, shortly before touchdown on the runway, there was a scuffle between Jiang and the captain. The Boeing 737 landed hard and came off the runway. It brushed against the cockpit of a parked Boeing 707 operated by China Southwest Airlines (B-2402) , injured the pilot and then collided with a Boeing 757 (B-2812) operated by China Southern Airlines waiting for take-off clearance . The Boeing 737 overturned and broke. A total of 128 people died, including Jiang who did not carry a bomb on his body.
