By CIM all operative to information systems of a production plant are linked. The focus is on the connection between business and technical systems. The Y-CIM model by August-Wilhelm Scheer clearly shows the components of both areas involved in the integration. It creates a connection between CAx and PPS systems .

Scheer's production model describes a framework with the dimensions phases and goals. There are on the steering level the integration objectives pursued linking and targeting. The performance system is not explicitly included in the analysis.
