history

The first YOU was held in Dortmund in 1996 and was invented and developed by Volker Ebener. The youngsters used the first fair as a leading fair; however, a Bell UH-1D of the readiness for flight of the Federal Ministry of Defense crashed during a show flight in a forest area and killed 13 people (see flight accident at the YOU 1996 youth fair in Dortmund ).

From 2000 to 2007 it was held every six months and initially took place in Dortmund and Berlin , from 2001 in Essen and Berlin. In 2008 the YOU, now held annually, celebrated its tenth anniversary in Berlin. In 2014 YOU took place in Dortmund for the first time in addition to Berlin.

The fair is divided into two main segments: "music.sports.lifestyle." And "Education.Career.Future." In addition to the entertainment value, YOU offers young people information and help in areas such as health , through cooperation with various associations, educational institutions and institutions . Society , politics , environment and economy . In this context, the “Days of Vocational Training” of the IHK and HWK Berlin took place on the YOU premises from 2007 to 2011 . Since 2012 there has been a career hall called “YOUrjobaktiv” in cooperation with the Federal Employment Agency. Here young people can find out all about training, entry-level jobs, applications and careers.

The tenth YOU in Berlin from October 24th to 26th, 2008 was attended by over 140,000 young people. More than 150 exhibitors were represented. A year later there were around 170 exhibitors and a comparable number of visitors. In 2010 the YOU took place once at the disused Tempelhof Airport in Berlin.

In 2015 the YOU took place under the motto “Summer Break” from July 3rd to 5th at the Berlin Exhibition Center. For the first time, the summer garden of the exhibition grounds was also used and a 1000 m² event pool was set up.
