YOU Foundation - Education for Children in Need
The YOU Foundation - Education for Children in Need - "UNESCO Foundation - Education for Children in Need" until 2015 - is a non-profit organization and a foundation under civil law with legal capacity based in Düsseldorf . The purpose of the foundation is the sustainable promotion of education and upbringing as well as the satisfaction of the basic needs of children in need worldwide.
history
The foundation was set up in 1992 by UNESCO special envoy Ute-Henriette Ohoven . It was founded in 2002 in cooperation with the German UNESCO Commission and UNESCO in Paris.
activity
the current main focus is on the 2030 Educational Agenda. The three subject areas “high-quality education”, “gender equality” and “reducing inequality”, but also the sustainable use of resources, are also considered. In close cooperation with UNESCO, future objects are identified, financially supported and checked for use of funds and effectiveness.
Project work
The program carried out over 400 projects in 97 countries. All projects are geared towards helping people to help themselves. They enable children and adolescents to have a solid school education with the aim of later vocational training.
To ensure the long-term supply of food, food science is integrated into the everyday life of families. Well construction and water pump installation are taught, as a basic supply of drinking water and regular meals are vital and at the same time most important prerequisites for the performance of school children. To prevent disease, health education is offered and the training of nurses and midwives is supported. War victims, former child soldiers, young work slaves and street children. They are helped to process their trauma and to be integrated into a social environment.
Examples of the financing of previous project work are:
- Establishment of schools, education and vocational training centers as well as orphanages with canteens for supply
- Clinic construction with training of staff and drug supply
- Establishment of water sources and food cultivation while at the same time imparting knowledge about the necessary work steps
- Educational measures in current emergency situations
- Microcredit granting
The top priority of all projects is also to convey the importance of tolerance and acceptance for securing peace.
Financing and development associations
The foundation is financed exclusively through donations. The Friends of Hope for Children in Need e. V. has the purpose of promoting and providing financial support to the foundation. The foundation does not have the donation seal of the German Central Institute for Social Issues.
Once a year the Hope for Children in Need eV organizes the UNESCO charity gala , the proceeds of which go to the program Education for Children in Need . Since 1992, more than 1000 international guests from business, culture, politics, sport, film and media have been invited to the gala by Ohoven and the General Director of UNESCO, Irina Bokowa . A highlight of the gala is the presentation of the UNESCO “Support” award to outstanding personalities who are recognized for their exceptional commitment to people or children in need.
