Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) is a state-owned oil and gas company in Bolivia .

YPFB was founded in 1936 and is by far the largest group in Bolivia. During Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada's presidency , the company was privatized along with other state-owned companies. After the election of the left-wing president Evo Morales , YPFB was re-established as a state-owned company in order to prevent the perceived exploitation by foreign investors. The measure of nationalization of the entire oil and gas sector was extremely successful for Bolivia. The country was one of the fastest growing economies in the region from 2009 to 2014. With the profits from the oil and gas sector, extensive social programs could be financed and the state was able to establish a very stable structure of public finances.

In the 2014 financial year, YPFB recorded an average monthly natural gas production volume of 61 million m³, the majority of which was exported by pipeline to Argentina and Brazil, while the smaller part is consumed domestically. A total of USD 3,571.6 million was paid to the state. Investments were $ 2,111 million (compared to 2004: $ 241 million)

YPFB is now an institution as defined in the new Bolivian Constitution of 2009. In Article 361 it is described as a self-sufficient public company, with autonomy in the technical and business management area, under the supervision of the responsible ministry. A monopoly position was also established, from extraction to marketing. A transfer of the granted rights and obligations is categorically excluded. However, joint ventures can be set up for certain purposes , whereby the YPFB share must always be at least 51 percent.

In accordance with the slogan La fuerza que transforma Bolivia (English: The force that transforms Bolivia), YPFB's mandate is also to lead the industrialization of the country, in cooperation with the Empresa Boliviana de Industrialización de Hidrocarburos, which is also institutionalized in the constitution ( German: Bolivian company for the industrialization of fossil fuels). Accordingly, YPFB has intensified its activities in areas such as refineries, lubricating oils, logistics, transport, power generation and filling stations. In addition, our own research activities are constantly being expanded.
