Fujiko Yamamoto ( Japanese 山 本 富士 子 Yamamoto Fujiko ; born December 11, 1931 in Osaka ) is a Japanese actress who appeared in more than 100 films from 1953 to 1963.

Life

Fujiko Yamamoto was born in Osaka in 1931. She grew up in Izumi and Izumiōtsu , where she attended Hamadera Elementary School. At the same time she was taking lessons in traditional Japanese dance. Yamamoto graduated from Kyoto Ōki High School.

In 1950, Yamamoto won the first Miss Nippon beauty pageant to be held . Three years later she got her first film role in a production for Daiei Studios , where she soon became one of the leading actresses and has appeared in more than 100 films. In 1959 she received the Blue Ribbon Award for best actress.

In 1963, when Yamamoto and Daiei Studios were planning to extend their contract, a dispute arose between her and chairman Masaichi Nagata , who eventually terminated Yamamoto's contract. Due to his relationships with other large film studios, she also received no role offers from other producers.

Yamamoto is still active as an actress in theater productions as well as for television, but has not worked in any film since the dispute with Daiei Studios. The only exception was a role in the 2001 comedy Kemonogare orera no saru to .

Fujiko Yamamoto was married to the composer Takeharu Yamamoto from 1962 until his death in 2011. In 1968 their son Shigeharu was born, who works as a businessman and president of several companies.
