Yamanouchi Seiyaku

Yamanouchi Seiyaku KK ( Japanese 山 之 内 製 薬 株式会社 , Yamanouchi seiyaku Kabushiki-gaisha , literally: "Yamanouchi pharmaceutical production", English Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. ) was a Japanese pharmaceutical company that merged in 2005 with Fujisawa Yakuhin Kōgyō . The new company is called Astellas .

In 1923 the Japanese Kenji Yamanouchi opened a pharmaceutical company in Osaka under the name Yamanouchi Yakuhin Shōkai ( 山 之 内 藥品 商會 ). In 1940 this company becomes Yamanouchi Seiyaku KK

In 1942 the company moved from Osaka to Tokyo . In 1963, the Taiwan Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. established the company's first overseas subsidiary. A New York office is opened in 1979 and an office in London in 1980 .

1986 Yamanouchi Ireland Co., Ltd. the first overseas production facility opened. It is intended for the production of bulk drug substances .

With the takeover of the pharmaceutical branch of the Dutch company Royal Gist Brocades , an independent European marketing organization is founded in 1991. In 1994 it was renamed Yamanouchi Europe BV . At the same time, Yamanouchi Pharma GmbH is also established in Germany.

In 1994, Shenyang Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. also opened up the Chinese market. In 2001, Yamanouchi Pharma America, Inc. was established in the USA with the aim of opening up the American market.

In 2004 it is decided to take over the Japanese pharmaceutical manufacturer Fujisawa Yakuhin Kōgyō. The merger negotiations will close on April 1, 2005. The name of the new company is Astellas . The German subsidiary of the new company is called Astellas Pharma GmbH and comprises the previous companies Yamanouchi Pharma GmbH , Fujisawa GmbH and Fujisawa Deutschland GmbH .
