Yammer

Yammer  [ ˈjæm.ɚ ] is a social network that was originally started as a microblogging service . The offer is not aimed at individuals but at companies; Internal networks (only e-mail addresses with the same domain are allowed) and external networks can be set up. Due to the professional focus, the sharing and processing of documents, the exchange of knowledge as well as internal and cross-company cooperation and communication are in the foreground. Yammer has been operational since September 2008.

On June 25, 2012, it was announced that the IT group Microsoft wants to take over Yammer for a price of 1.2 billion dollars. The acquisition was completed on July 19, 2012.

Microsoft developed integrations for Yammer with Office 365 , OneNote and Microsoft Sharepoint . Yammer has not been available as a standalone application since January 2017, but has become part of Office 365 Enterprise.

Features

Features of Yammer:

  • Different groups can be created for collaboration. There are public groups and closed groups. In addition, groups can be released for internal or external participants.
  • Articles can be written and published according to target groups. The contributions can be rated "I like" or commented.
  • Documents (e.g. images, PDF) can be uploaded and downloaded.
  • The search can be used to search for specific content.
  • Voting can be done in Yammer.
  • Messages can be shared with groups or individual users (private message).
  • Users can use the notifications or email alerts to display relevant content in a targeted manner.
