Yan Ming

Empress mother Yan Ming († 152 ), formally Empress Xiaochong , was an empress mother of the Han dynasty , although she was never empress . She became Empress Mother in 146 because her son Liu Zhi (as Emperor Huan ) came to the throne.

Yan Ming was a concubine of Liu Yi, the Marquis of Liwu. After her husband died, his firstborn son Liu Zhi inherited the title. After the young Emperor Zhi was poisoned by the powerful official Liang Ji in 146, the 13-year-old Marquis Zhi was chosen to be the heir to the throne at the instigation of Liang Ji's younger sister, Liang Nüying . After he became emperor, he first honored his mother with the title of prince consort (by making his father emperor posthumously). After the regent, Empress Mother Liang Na , died in 150, Emperor Huan honored his mother with the title of Empress, practically raising her to Empress Mother. He gave her nine lands as fiefs. Yan Ming died in 152.
