Yang Yi (writer)

Yang Yi ( Chinese  楊 逸  /  楊 逸 , Pinyin Yáng Yì , Japanese after Hepburn Yan Ī , real name Liu You ( Chinese  劉 莜  /  刘 莜 , Pinyin Liú Yóu ); born June 18, 1964 in Harbin , People's Republic of China ) is a Japanese Writer of Chinese origin.

Yang Yi went to Japan in 1987 to study Japanese language at Tokyo University. She also wrote for a newspaper for Chinese emigrants and taught Chinese. In 2007 she made her debut as a writer with the novel Wang-chan ( ワ ン ち ゃ ん , Wan-chan ), for which she received the Bungakukai Prize for New Authors . For her next novel Toki ga nijimu asa ( 時 が 滲 む 朝 ) she was the first foreign author to be awarded the Akutagawa Prize . Her next two novels, Kingyo seikatsu ( 金魚 生活 ) and Suki-yaki ( す き ・ や き ) were published in 2009.
