Yangisuw Gorge

The Yangisuw Gorge is a canyon in Turkmenistan .

location

The gorge is located in western Turkmenistan in the Kopet-Dag , a mountain range that extends from Iran to Turkmenistan. The closest major city is Turkmenbashi on the Caspian Sea , which is just under 200 kilometers west of the gorge. The surrounding plateau is known for the fossils found there . There are also other gorges in the region, the Yangykala gorge in particular being known.

The gorge is best known for its bizarre rock formations and colorful limestone deposits .

The gorges Yangisuw and Yangykala are part of many tours through Turkmenistan, but due to their poor accessibility in the Kopet-Dag, surrounded by the Karakum desert , not a destination for mass tourism.
