Yao - Adventures of a Chief's Son is a 13-part Franco-Ivorian television series directed by Claude Vermorel . The German first broadcast was on October 21, 1969 on ZDF .

The young chief's son Yao (as a child: Yao Kouakou; later: François Boguy) is expelled from his tribe after the death of his father. The scheming Zakoro (Dembele Barry) becomes the new head of the tribe. Yao's girlfriend Elloa (Eugénie Kouassa) also turns away from him. Left on his own, Yao wanders through the African jungle, experiences exciting adventures and finally gets to know the daughter of a powerful king, whom he marries after various tests. Finally he returns to his tribe, where he overthrows Zakoro and yet becomes chief.

Trivia

The only professional actor in the ensemble was Yao actor François Boguy. The other roles were cast by amateur actors from the Ivory Coast . The half-hour episodes were first broadcast on Tuesdays at 7:10 p.m. Over the years, the mini-series was repeated by various stations - mostly in the third programs - on different broadcasting slots.
