Jay Severin

Jay Severin (actually: James Thompson Severino III ; born January 8, 1951 in Hudson Valley , New York ; † July 7, 2020 ) was an American radio host and political commentator . Severin worked as a presenter at the Boston WXKS-AM Talk 1200 between 2011 and 2012 . Due to controversial statements, he was dismissed and then engaged by the right-wing populist Glenn Beck's The Blaze Radio Network in September 2012.

Life

Early years

Severin's mother worked as a writer and his father was an advertising specialist. He spent several teenage years in Poughkeepsie and later studied at Boston University .

Severin worked in New York City as a political advisor to David Garth. In 1979 he founded Severin Aviles Associates to provide media support to Republican candidates. George Bush and right-wing conservative politician Pat Buchanan were among his clients .

He followed Gene Burns as a radio host in October 1994. Severin was hired by WOR and worked there until June 1996. Between April and July 1999 he worked as a presenter at WRKO .

At the end of 1999 he began to moderate a program on WTKK .

Controversy and dismissal at WTKK

In April 2004, a caller said that non-Muslims should develop friendships with Muslims in the United States. Severin replied that “the overwhelming majority of Muslims are not loyal to the US and will take over the country when the time comes. You think we should befriend them? I think we should kill them all. ”On April 25, 2004 Severin rowed back and said that he only meant terrorists. He was misunderstood. The Council for American Islamic Relations ( CAIR ) unsuccessfully demanded Severin's resignation.

On April 30th, 2009 Severin said that Mexicans are "the most primitive beings on earth". Mexicans have mustaches and sexually transmitted diseases and Mexicans are generally " leeches ". He was then suspended. On June 3, 2009, he apologized for the comments and was allowed to continue moderating.

In March 2011 Severin said that he had slept with literally every young intern in his company. Then he was released from WTKK. Greater Media said that Severin was neither willing nor able to adhere to the company's values.

WXKS Talk1200 AM

Severin returned to WXKS Talk1200 AM in 2011. He worked there until 2012. Severin then signed with The Blaze Radio network in September 2012.

Political attitude and further statements

Severin saw himself as a libertarian and a fiscal conservative. He once described Hillary Clinton as the devil and Obama as the enemy of the US Constitution.
