Yatsuhashi

Yatsuhashi ( Japanese 八 ツ 橋 ) are Japanese sweets . They are sold as Miyage in Kyoto .

First, rice is ground into powder. The powder rice is mixed with cinnamon and sugar . With dried yatsuhashi this is then dried, with raw yatsuhashi it is rolled with the adzuki bean .

The name of the candy Yatsuhashi can - mutatis mutandis - with Angle Bridge play: the cinnamon sticks are boards a narrow bridge in zigzag, as the first character - - represents. This is the symbol for the number eight, which is used here because of its shape. These yatsuhashi can be found in many parks as a walkway over a pond. And when they cross an iris field, it reminds the Japanese of a famous story, the Ise Monogatari , which is associated with Kyoto.
