Year-to-date (YTD) in the field of finance refers to the period from the beginning of the year to the current point in time. A fiscal year usually starts on January 1st, whereas the start of a fiscal year can vary depending on the business or organization. YTD can be used in many contexts, but mainly to show the results of an activity between a date and the start of the business or fiscal year.
In a financial context, YTD is used to present the success or performance of a business unit in the annual financial statements . By displaying the current YTD, owners, managers and stakeholders are able to compare the company's current performance with that from previous periods.
