The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts is a community center with artistic orientation in the district of Yerba Buena San Francisco . After the district was redeveloped in the early 1980s, planning for the center began. The operating company was founded in 1986. The center opened in 1993.

The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts is a complex of two buildings. The Japanese architect Fumihiko Maki planned one of the buildings, which contains three galleries, a forum and a cinema on an area of ​​around 5100 m². The forum is an event hall with an area of ​​around 600 m² that can seat up to 600 people. The cinema has 94 seats.

The second building, designed by the American James Stewart Polshek , houses the Novellus Theater, which is named after the Novellus Systems company . The theater hall has 757 seats on two levels. Overall, this building has a usable area of ​​around 4700 m².

The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts is used by both local and international artists and artist groups for exhibitions, performances and conferences. In addition to these cultural events, Apple Inc. product presentations will also take place in the Novellus Theater . Among other things, the iPad was presented to the media here.
