The Yookamurra Sanctuary (English Yookamurra Sanctuary ) is a nature reserve in the Murray - Darling Plain in South Australia , Australia . It is 5,000 hectares and is home to rare animal species such as the anthill . The reserve is 130 km northeast of Adelaide , with the nearest town being Sedan , which is approximately 15 miles southwest. To the north is the Moorunde Wildlife Reserve , which primarily serves to protect the southern hair- nosed wombat .

The anthill was released back into the wild in the protected area. In addition, there are southern hair-nosed wombat, western gray giant kangaroo , red giant kangaroo , large rabbit- nosed cone , short-billed hedgehog , brush kangaroo and numerous species of birds, such as the warbler . In total, the reserve is home to 20 species of mammals, 96 species of birds, 24 species of reptiles and one species of amphibian.

The reserve consists of slightly undulating eucalyptus bushes and is operated by the Australian Wildlife Conservancy . It is open to visitors.
