The Youssef syndrome is an artificial link between the uterus and bladder ( vesikouterine fistula ), which after a cesarean section (opening of the uterus) can be caused by accidental injury of the bladder wall. It is named after the Egyptian gynecologist Abdel Fattah Youssef.

Through the opening, the menstrual period can get into the urine and thus cause periodic hematuria without any further symptoms. The fistula can be made visible in the X-ray image by probing or filling the uterus with contrast medium.
