Youthpass

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Youthpass is a certificate that emphasizes the value of non-formal and informal learning experiences. It is based on a resolution of the European Council and was developed between 2005 and 2007 on behalf of the European Commission .

context

In contrast to formal learning that takes place in classic educational institutions such as schools or universities, non-formal learning experiences can be made anywhere, for example in sports clubs, summer camps, exchange programs or in everyday life. Youthpass aims to recognize and validate these experiences across Europe.

Participants in projects funded within the framework of the EU youth program “ Youth in Action ” can use the certificate to reflect on their learning and have it recognized. This includes the European Voluntary Service and mobility measures for professionals and youth initiatives. In 2013, 80 percent of all participants from EU-funded youth projects received a Youthpass certificate.

structure

The Youthpass certificate is created online by the project participants and consists of three sections. The first two sections contain information about the participant, the project, its focus and the organization responsible. In the third part, the individual learning experiences are described in their own words. The “Eight Key Competences for Lifelong Learning ”, which were defined by the European Parliament and the European Council in 2006, serve as an aid :

  1. Mother tongue competence
  2. Foreign language competence
  3. Mathematical and scientific-technical competence
  4. Computer literacy
  5. Learning skills
  6. Social competence and civic competence
  7. Initiative and entrepreneurial competence
  8. Cultural awareness and expression

The certificate is signed by the person responsible for the project and can then be used, for example, for applications as proof of personal development.
