Yuju

The Yuju Opera (Chinese豫劇/豫剧yuju), also called Henan Opera, is a local form of Chinese opera .

Emergence

The Yuju Opera originated in the late Ming Dynasty by combining the Shanxi and Shaanxi operas with the local dialect and local folk songs of Henan Province . There are four schools of Yuju opera, of which only the Hedong and Hexi styles are common today, while the Xiangfu and Sahe styles are no longer popular.
