Yuki (language)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Yuki (also Yukian , Ukiah , Ukomno'm ) was one of the Yuki-Wappo languages in northern California , spoken by the Yuki Indian tribe . Only a few speakers of this language are still alive - the last people who were fluent in the language died in the middle of the 20th century.

Originally the language consisted of three different dialects: Yuki, Huchnom and Coast Yuki, which as a language family are considered almost isolated from other genetic language units. Yuki is related to Wappo . Possible relationships with other language families are only suspected with the Gulf languages .
