Yukio Matsumoto

Yukio Matsumoto ( Japanese 松本 幸 夫 , Matsumoto Yukio ; * 1944 ) is a Japanese mathematician who studies geometric topology and the topology of low-dimensional manifolds. He was a professor at Tokyo University .

Matsumoto received his doctorate in 1973 from the University of Tokyo under Ichirō Tamura ( Knot cobordism groups and surgery in codimension two ). From 1969 he was a lecturer, from 1974 associate professor and from 1979 professor at the University of Tokyo. After his retirement he was at Gakushuin University.

In 1984 he received the Iyanaga Prize from the Japanese Mathematical Society .
