Yuzhpolimetall ( Russian Южполиметалл ) is a mining company from Kazakhstan based in Shymkent . It is one of the largest manufacturers of lead in the world.
Yuzhpolimetall was founded on January 22nd, 1999. It is wholly privately owned. The company employs around 1900 people. In 2004, 160,000 tons of lead were produced.
At the beginning of 2009, Yuzhpolimetall ran into enormous financial difficulties, as a result of which more than 1,000 employees were no longer paid and production had to be suspended.
