Yuzukoshō

Yuzukoshō or Yuzugoshō ( Japanese 柚子 胡椒 ) is a Japanese spice.

It is a paste made from yuzu , salt and chilli pepper . Yuzu is the name for a Japanese citrus fruit, while Koshō is black pepper. In Kyushu dialect, Koshō means chili pepper.

Yuzukoshō has a bitter, spicy-hot taste.

There are two variants:

  • Green Yuzukoshō: made from green yuzus and green chili pepper
  • Orange yuzukoshō: made from yellow yuzus and red chilli pepper
