Chili powder
Chili powder or chili pepper ( English Chili Powder or chili mix ) is a sharp US spice mixture from the basic ingredients cayenne pepper , cumin , garlic and oregano . Depending on the recipe, it can also contain cinnamon , nutmeg , cloves , coriander and other ingredients. Chili powder is a typical spice in Tex-Mex cuisine . It is not to be confused with finely ground chili, which is traded as cayenne pepper in German-speaking countries. Chili powder has a relatively low heat of around 500 to 1,000 Scoville , while cayenne pepper is considerably hotter with 2,500 to 60,000 Scoville.
The first mixes were in 1890 by DC Pendry in Fort Worth , Texas, and in 1894 by William Gebhardt in New Braunfels , manufactured, Texas.
