Spark plug wires

Spark plug cables (also: ignition cables or ignition cables ) are used to electrically connect an ignition coil or an ignition distributor to a spark plug .

The high voltage generated in the ignition coil is sent to the spark plug as ignition voltage (up to 30,000 volts) in order to generate an ignition spark. The focus is on the secure connection and energy transfer under z. T. extreme operating conditions (example motorcycle ).

Designs

The most common designs are:

  • Reaction ignition leads (with steel wire and electromagnetic carbon and silicone as conductor material)
  • Resistance ignition cables (with electromagnetic carbon and silicone as conductor material)
  • Low resistance copper ignition cables

The resistor is used for radio interference suppression . If the spark plug cables are not the same length due to the engine, a resistance-free copper ignition cable is used. The resistor is then located in the spark plug connector.
