Zurich Cantonal Turn Festival

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zürcher Kantonalturnfest (KTF) is one of the 23 cantonal gymnastic festivals that are held in Switzerland at regular intervals. It currently takes place every 6 years, which has not always been the case in the past (see the history section). The KTF is always held in one place within the Canton of Zurich and is primarily intended for gymnastics clubs that are active in this canton and belong to the Zurich Gymnastics Association. Associations outside the canton can take part in the KTF as so-called visiting associations.

The KTF also mainly distinguishes the venue and origin of the participating clubs from the Federal Gymnastics Festival of the Swiss Gymnastics Federation (which takes place at any location in Switzerland) and the regional gymnastics festivals (which are held within the three regions of the ZTV).

offer

The KTF offers the opportunity for a sporting test of strength and the gathering of gymnasts and gymnast friends, which is formally given by the Cantonal Veterans Day. As a rule, the sports program is structured as follows:

1st weekend

  • Opening ceremony
  • Individual competitions
  • Youth competitions
  • Group games

2nd weekend

  • Section competitions
  • Competitions for the disabled (Plusport)
  • Final demonstration

2005 Wiesendangen

The KTF05 took place on 2/3 and 9./10. July 2005 in Wiesendangen and was under the motto "move a lot together, experience a lot together". So around 55,000 hours of helpers were invested (excluding OK hours) to get the party going. "The festival of short distances" (as it was also called) was the home of 9,000 gymnasts for two weekends. President of the around 120-strong OC was National Councilor Jürg Stahl, himself an active gymnast, former successful decathlete and honorary member of the Zurich Gymnastics Association.

The KTF 2005 differed from the previous KTF mainly in that it was supported by eight regional gymnastics clubs, which together formed a sponsoring association. At the festival itself, these were present through their own food stalls on the festival mile.

The profit of around CHF 370,000 achieved was due to around 3,000 helpers and the ambitious and motivated OK's. The entire income was paid out to the clubs to which the helpers belonged. There was no payment to individuals.

2017 Rikon im Tösstal

In 2017, seven clubs in the Töss Valley (Turbenthal, Wila, Bauma, Seen, Wildberg, Schlatt ZH, Rikon) and the Weisslingen gymnastics club held the KTF on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Rikons gymnastics club.
