The Zurich thaler was the currency of Zurich until 1798, when it was replaced by the franc of the Helvetic Republic . It was divided into 2 guilders, each worth 36 shillings. A schilling consisted of 4 cents or 12 hallers. 11 thalers corresponded to one Cologne mark .

Coins

Thaler , double thaler and half thaler were first minted in Zurich in the 16th century. The oldest known coin is a guilder from 1512.

In the late 18th century silver coins worth 5 and 20 shillings, ½ and 1 thaler were minted.
