The ZF Industrial Drives Witten GmbH (formerly L & S) , headquartered in Witten is a manufacturer of gearboxes for industrial and wind power plants and clutch technology. The company goes back to the industrial company Lohmann & Stolterfoht GmbH, founded by Max Lohmann and Max Stolterfoht in Berlin in 1884. ZF Industrieantriebe Witten GmbH was established on December 1, 2015 when ZF Friedrichshafen took over the large gear division of Bosch Rexroth , which strategically entered the market for industrial gears.

history

The company was founded by Max Lohmann and Max Stolterfoht in Berlin in 1884. The founding fathers, however, already settled with their company in 1890 due to better infrastructure and closer links to other industrial companies in the middle of the Ruhr area in Witten , where the company is still based today. Lohmann & Stolterfoht GmbH became known for its drive technology and couplings for shipping, and over the years gearboxes for industrial and mobile applications as well as for wind turbines were added. The company was temporarily part of Mannesmann Rexroth and Bosch Rexroth AG. ZF Industrieantriebe Witten GmbH has been a 100% subsidiary of ZF Friedrichshafen AG since 2015 . Within the ZF Group, she founds the newly created industrial gear unit within the Industrial Technology division.

Business area

Today, ZF Industrieantriebe Witten GmbH supplies gearboxes for the wind industry as well as industrial gearboxes for mining, marine and offshore applications, cable cars and industrial plants as well as clutches.

For mining applications and large construction machines, the portfolio consists of drive, slewing, winch and pump distributor gearboxes. For the marine & offshore market, the company supplies gearboxes for jack-up systems as well as winch and swivel gearboxes for oil drilling platforms and work ships. Classic industrial gear units for stationary industrial plants and equipment are used in a wide variety of applications from various industries (e.g. cable car systems, tunnel boring machines, roller mills, ...)

For the wind energy sector, ZF Industrieantriebe Witten GmbH develops and manufactures generator gearboxes with an output of up to 9.5 MW and azimuth gearboxes.

Others

In addition to developing and manufacturing gearboxes for the industrial and wind energy markets, ZF Industrieantriebe Witten GmbH is the European service center for industrial gearboxes and gearboxes for wind turbines. As a result, ZF Industrieantriebe GmbH now also takes on the replacement and repair of large gears and clutches that were previously delivered under the brands Lohmann & Stolterfoht, Mannesmann Rexroth or Bosch Rexroth.

In 2016, around 900 people were employed at the Witten site.
