Zabumba

Zabumba

The zabumba is a flat bass drum of Brazilian music with two skins , similar to a bass drum in the marching music. Their diameter is 40 to 56 centimeters, the height 20 to 30 centimeters.

It is played with two different mallets, a timpani mallet for the low side and a thin stick ( Bacalhau ) for the high side. The zabumba is played in various regional musical styles such as coco , xaxado , forró and xote .

Another name for this type of drum is Alfaia .
