Zahra Eshraghi (also Sahra Eschraghi , * 1964 ) is one of the best-known Iranian women's rights activists. Zahra Esraghi is a granddaughter of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and has been married to Mohammad-Reza Chātamī , the younger brother of the former President Mohammed Chatami , since 1983 . She is one of the “most eloquent critics” of the regime and has developed into a central figure within the opposition movement.

The whole country, Eshraghi said, “is under enforced silence, begging to ask questions, but unfortunately nobody within the regime is protesting.” Eshraghi told the New York Times : “I'm sorry to say that the chador is open to women was forced, [...] I only wear it because of my family status. "
