Zapatistas
As Zapatistas or Zapatista largely be social revolutionary indigenous political factions in the south of Mexico , especially in the state of Chiapas , respectively.
The Zapatistas received international attention in 1994 as a result of the armed uprising of the Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional under Subcomandante Marcos . The name of the Zapatistas goes back to Emiliano Zapata (1879-1919), probably the most famous leader of the Mexican Revolution in southern Mexico and his comrades-in-arms who belonged to the Ejército Libertador del Sur (German: "Liberation Army of the South"). Therefore, a distinction is sometimes made between Zapatistas and Neo-Zapatistas.
