Zatre is an abstract placement game with arithmetic elements by Manfred Schüling . The game was first published in 1993 by Peri Spiele in Germany and simultaneously by The Great American Trading Company in the United States , and in the same year it was nominated for the game of the year critics award. In 1998 it received the As d'Or game award and in 2005 a new edition was published by Amigo .

Theme and equipment

The players draw two number tiles from one to six face down and place them on a board reminiscent of Scrabble so that the sums of the newly placed tiles with all the tiles that are already lying horizontally and vertically are as close as possible to the desired range of ten, eleven and twelve. Sums above this may not be placed, sums of nine and smaller may be placed, but do not result in a score. There are bonuses for placing all three values ten to twelve evenly and for placing them on special fields.

The square game board is made of cardboard in dark gray tones, the 121 number tiles are made of white plastic with the values one to six in the traditional point representation like on a dice. The equipment includes a cloth bag for concealed pulling of the platelets.

variants

In 2007 Manfred Schüling released an independent card game based largely on the same game principle as Zatre - Das Kartenspiel . As with dominoes, the tiles are twice the size and have two numerical values. In addition, each player has three tiles in hand and can choose and place one of them.

There is an online version of the game that can be played in the regular way (professional) or with tips in the board game world .
