Zealmen is an Austrian alternative rock band that became known by participating in the Ö3 Soundcheck and releasing their debut single Supernatural in 2007.
history
The group was founded in 2005 under the name Pristine . The band took part in the Soundcheck, the largest band competition in Austria, for the first time six months after it was founded. At that time it was among the top 10 best bands in Austria. In 2007 Pristine was able to prevail against almost 700 bands and the band again made it into the finals of the best 15 of the Ö3 Soundcheck 07, Austria's largest band competition. She was signed by Sony BMG Music Entertainment . Her first single was called Supernatural and was played on rotation on Hitradio Ö3 in the summer of 2007. At the end of the same year, the group reached number 3 in the Austrian charts with Die neue Österreicher - Kinder .
In January 2008 Pristine received the “Austrian Newcomer Award” in the “Rock” category.
In 2009 the band was also played on some German radio stations. A German rock band of the same name became aware of it, so the renaming of Pristine to Zealmen was initiated to avoid legal disputes.
Stylistically, the band can be classified as mainstream-oriented alternative rock , comparable to REM. In contrast to this band, the (electric) guitar is of greater importance for the style.
