Die Neuen Österreicher was an action by the Austrian radio station Ö3 to promote Austrian pop , rock and alternative music . This movement began with Christina Stürmer's international success and the Ö3 Soundcheck band competition . Since then, the proportion of performers from Austria in the station's airplay has increased by 9%. The share of compositions from Austria on Ö3 rose from 5% (2006) to 5.5% (2007). The ORF also wanted to increase the share of Austrian music on Ö3 by 2 percentage points per year compared to 2008 by 2011. This was not achieved, the high of 8% in 2010 was followed by a drop in the "Austrian share" to just 3.2% in 2013. After the share had risen to 7% in the first quarter of 2014, it came from statements an Ö3 presenter to a shit storm . Several initiatives called for a higher proportion, whereupon up to 13% of the program came from Austrian artists in summer 2014.

Campaign for "light in the dark"

In November 2007, Die Neuen Österreicher released the song Kinder . Contributors were SheSays , Luttenberger * Klug , Mario Lang , Shiver , Leo Aberer , Zweifrau , Eric Papilaya , Excuse Me Moses , Morton , Pristine and Herbstrock . The proceeds from the sale of the single went to the fundraising campaign Licht ins Dunkel .

On December 9, 2007, the single entered the Ö3 listener charts at number 1 . The single entered the Ö3 Austria Top 40 at number 4 and was the highest-placed Austrian contribution there.
