Mondscheiner was an Austrian rock band , cabaret artist and actor group that was founded in Vienna in 2002 . In 2009 the band broke up.

history

Beginning

In the mid-nineties, the predecessor group of Mondscheiner came together as a cabaret group, a majority of the members were also sound engineers , actors and hobby musicians . Initially, German-language texts were written by part of the band for the cabaret. The group's musical career only began in 2002 when the band Mondscheiner was officially founded.

First successes

Mondscheiner earned its first fans in the Viennese local scene. In 2003 the band released their first EP, Die Kunst der Verführung . In 2004 they played with well-known bands such as Klee , Garish and Wir sind Helden . In the same year the debut album La belle captive came on the market, was able to achieve first media success, but it was not very successful commercially. In 2005 part of the band moved to Linz to make their way there as an actor group. Meanwhile, the other part of the group did not pursue the musician engagement, but paused in this area. Shortly afterwards they separated from Karl Kühn.

Record deal and commercial breakthrough

In spring 2006 the record company Sony BMG Music Entertainment signed the band. In July of the same year, her debut single Das what wir sind was played for the first time on a radio station ( Ö3 ).

Shortly afterwards, the band was included in the opening act for Silbermond and their tour of Austria.

At the end of this summer she brought out her second album Die Stadt , which was far more successful than the other CDs. The song Das Was wir sind reached tenth place in the Austrian charts after a few months .

At the end of 2006, the band unexpectedly split from Heimo Korak. July Skone was his successor on drums. Since the beginning of 2007 the group was seen in the play King Lear in Klagenfurt.

The band won the elimination for the title song of the ORF series Mitten im 8en . The number Mittendrin is also the second release of the newly released album. Like the series, the single was not very successful.

That day and last album

In May 2007 they received the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the “Newcomer of the Year” category.

The third single from the album, This Day , entered the Ö3 Austria Top 40 far more successfully than its predecessor. A short time later it was announced on the Mondscheiner website that the band was already working on a new album at this point. The band said they wanted to focus more on what they started with a few years ago .

The album, released on January 23, 2009, is titled Songs & Daughters . The first single was released on January 9th, 2009 and is called The Silence .

In November 2009 the band announced that they would split up after a tour in early 2010.
