Songs & Daughters is the third studio album by the Austrian rock band Mondscheiner . It was released on January 23, 2009 by Sony Music .
The long player was first released on Columbia Records after the first album was released on GAB Music and the second on Ariola.
In terms of style, Songs & Daughters is reminiscent of Mondscheiner's first album La belle captive (2004). According to a review by the Viennese city newspaper Falter , the album is more influenced by rock music than its predecessor.
background
At the beginning of 2008, the band presented new titles for the first time at a concert in the Vienna Reigen. The production of a new album was then announced. This was worn exclusively by the band, the record company was hardly involved in this. In summer 2008 the album was recorded in a square yard in the Mostviertel . Shortly before, Andreas Hamza joined the band as the new guitarist. At the charity event breathend08 , the group presented the new title Our Street with Schiffkowitz . According to the band's website it was planned to release the album in autumn 2008, but this was rejected by the record company.
Already in the preliminary reports on the album one spoke of a return to the old style, after the predecessor Die Stadt was clearly more commercial. In addition, it was forbidden to play new tracks at the concerts until the album was released. As a forerunner to the album, the single The Silence was released on January 9, 2009 .

reception
The album was perceived by music critics much better than before This City . The music magazine now-on praises the album's non-commercial orientation:
“They no longer think about potential sales figures, prefer to concentrate more on their idea of thoughtful, self-reflective pop, with which they once started. So they declared that they recorded Songs & Daughters primarily for themselves. "
In addition, the weekly newspaper Falter commented positively on the production:
“The record company stayed out of the studio this time around (“ an enormous fight, ”says drummer July Skone), which was audibly good for the production. In 14 poetic songs between forced rock, controlled world embrace, pleasing pop and piano ballad, Mondscheiner turn out to be a very good band that knows very well that self-reflection and self-confidence do not have to be a contradiction in terms.
