The Antonius colliery is a former hard coal mine in Essen- Baldeney. During the more than fifty years of operation , the mine consolidated twice with another shaft system.

Antony

The Antonius colliery had been in operation since 1780, the tunnel was located near the Baldeney house. In 1802, 20 ringlets, that is 1.5 tons, were extracted from the mine every day. There is evidence that the mine was in operation in 1802 and 1807. In 1811, daily operation 1 went into production. On August 8, 1817, the union with the United Capellenbank colliery to form the Antonius & Capellenbank colliery.

Antonius & Capellenbank

After the unification in 1817, mining continued . In 1820 there were 25 miners in the mine . The mine was also in operation in 1820 and 1824. On August 1, 1825, it merged with the Rolandsbank colliery to form the Antonius & Rolandsbank colliery.

Antonius & Rolandsbank

After the unification in 1825, this mine continued to be mined. In 1830, 34 miners extracted 95,400 bushels , or 5,247 tons, of hard coal. The last information about the mine comes from the year 1834, it was mined with five miners 41,512 bushels (2283.2 tons) of hard coal. After that, the mine was no longer mentioned in the files of the Mining Authority; it was probably shut down in 1834.
