The Gute Hope colliery in Sprockhövel (district Haßlinghausen ) is a former hard coal mine . The colliery was also known under the name Colliery Auff gutte Hoffnungh .

Mining history

In 1643, Cordt Stock dug a tunnel on the Weyershauser Bach in Halloer Grund. The tunnel was driven in an easterly direction. A coal bank was believed to be 700 feet from the tunnel mouth hole . On October 1 of the same year, the request was made . On October 16, 1645, the mine was enfeoffed by Diederich von Diest. After the loan, the driveway was discontinued at a tunnel length of 700 feet. The reason for the suspension of the ascension was the turmoil of war that was prevalent at the time. At that point, it was 60 feet to the coal bank. Operations resumed on February 12, 1650. Thereafter, there is no further information about the Gute Hope colliery.
