The Gute Hope IV colliery is a former coal mine in Witten - Auf dem Schnee. The colliery was a small colliery and arose from the Ergste-Schnee colliery, the colliery was located at Hackertsbergweg 44 and was only in operation for a few years.

Mining history

The colliery was put into operation on February 1, 1948 under the name Ergste-Schnee colliery . The municipality of Ergste owned the gallery . On June 1, 1950, the mine was shut down and put back into operation the following year. In 1951 ten miners extracted 1,868 tons of hard coal . On October 31, 1952, the mine was closed again. On January 2nd there was a change of ownership and Erwin Schmidt became the new owner. At the same time the mine was put back into operation. This year 1650 tons of hard coal were mined by 16 miners. On January 1st, 1956, the mine was renamed to Zeche Gute Hoffnung IV. In 1957, a mining hoist was built in the Neuflöz seam at a depth of 150 meters. After that, it was started to open up a further hoisting conveyor. This second production heave had a dip of 22.5 gons . This year, 38 miners mined 3,623 tons of hard coal. In 1960, 34 miners mined 3943 tons of hard coal. In 1964 the maximum production of the mine was provided by 28 miners, it was 4255 tons of hard coal. On July 31, 1965, the Gute Hoffnung IV colliery was shut down.
