The Hope Valley colliery is a former coal mine in Sprockhövel -Niederstüter. The mine was a small mine , the owner of this small mine was Gustav Riepelsiep in the early years. The mine was only in operation for a few years, from 1952 to 1957.
Mining history
The mine was put into operation on April 1, 1952. The mine mouth hole was located east of the Paasbach near the street Zum Hackstück (Hackstückstraße). The pit field in which the mine was operated belonged to the former Johannessegen colliery . The mine ceased operations on June 23 of the same year. In the same year the mine was put back into operation in the tunnel construction . The reduction of coal carried in the seam mud bank. This year, 3833 tons of hard coal were extracted with eleven miners . The mine was sold on January 1, 1954, and the new owner of the mine was now Hans Wolf Lange & Co oHG. The mine was renamed the Hope Valley colliery. In the same year the maximum production of the mine was reached with 27 miners, 8,540 tons of hard coal were extracted. In 1956, a total of 6162 tons of hard coal were mined with 24 employees. The production was probably stopped in June 1957. On December 31, 1958, the Hope Valley Colliery was shut down.
