The bill Mönkhoffsbank was a coal - mine in Wichteltal in food - Überruhr .

history

The name of the colliery goes back to the nearby Mönkhof on the border between Überruhr-Hinsel and Holthausen. Mönninghofsbank is another name.

There are indications that the colliery in Wichteltal, on the left bank of the Ruhr , must have been in operation as early as 1673. In 1831 there was evidence of a mining shaft . A pump from Dinnendahl was ordered here in 1843 and is now in the Mining Museum in Bochum. A horse-drawn tram connected the Mönkhoffsbank colliery and the United Charlotte colliery with the Holteyer port on the Ruhr, which was built around 1840 and is directly adjacent .

In the middle of the 19th century, the mine had to be closed for the time being due to massive water ingress. In 1867 it was finally shut down after being put back into operation.

Current condition

The overgrown ruins of dry stone - pit building , which was built circa 1830, is still visible. The shaft was sunk from here . Furthermore, the building of the former blacksmith's shop, which is now a listed building along with the quarry stone shaft building, is now a residential building and has therefore been heavily modified through renovations.
