The Morgenstern colliery is a former coal mine in Essen-Stadtwald . The mine was in operation for over 40 years.
Mining history
The first guess was made in 1798 . From 1822, the Morgenstern seam was mined near today's Zeisigstrasse . Since the mining permits were unclear, the seam from the Langenbrahm colliery was mined separately at another location. As of the following year, mining in the Morgenstern seam was combined into a separate Morgenstern colliery. The promotion of the mined coal was carried out by the "deepest Long Brahmer tunnels" and for days to watch . From 1828, the operation and production of the Morgenstern colliery was merged with the Langenbrahm colliery. Despite this merger, both mines remained independent. In 1869 , the Morgenstern colliery consolidated with additional fields to form the Langenbrahm colliery.
