The Zeche Sonnenblick is a former hard coal mine in Dortmund .
The colliery was located on a southern slope of the Dortmund ridge north of the Emscher in the area of the Westfalenpark . The mine was first mentioned in a document in 1772. Seven seams were mined between the Emscher and the northern marl border : thick bench, four-hand bench, five-hand bench, six-hand bench, seven-hand bench, eight-hand bench, skinny cock.
The mine was closed in April 1813. On May 25, 1815, the mining operations were consolidated into the new Friedrich Wilhelm mine .
Today the Sonnenblick allotment garden is reminiscent of the old colliery.
