The Stephansbank colliery is a former hard coal mine in the Stockum district of Witten . The mine was also known under the names Zeche Stephanibank and Stephani-Erbstolln . The mine was located east of today's Stockumer Straße south of Neuweg.

Mining history

In 1765, Stephan Caspar Schievelbusch suggested a seam that was south of the village. The Längenfeld Stephansbank was awarded on July 6th of the same year . The mine then went into operation. To get to the coal bank, the tunnel was first excavated for 200 meters . On February 9, 1769, the hereditary tunnel righteousness was awarded. Stephan Caspar Schievelbusch had the Stephani seam dismantled . In 1783 the mine was still in operation. By this time, several shift foremen had already been working at the mine. After 1783 the mine was taken out of service. In January 1798 the mine was put back into operation. The mining took place in the area around the Samuel shaft. The Stephansbank colliery was shut down on February 25, 1799. On May 5th, 1801, a mining authority differentiation from the Seven Planet Erbstolln took place. The reason for this measure was the older rights of use of the Siebenplaneten Erbstolln colliery . In August 1832 the Stephansbank colliery was slammed into the United Wallfisch colliery.
