Zeina Akar

Zeina Akar Adra ( Arabic زينة عكر عدرا, DMG Zaina ʿAkar ʿAdrā ; * around 1975) is a Lebanese social scientist. From January 2020 to August 2020 she was Minister of Defense and Deputy Prime Minister in the Diab cabinet .

Zeina Akar holds a bachelor's degree in social sciences from the American University of Beirut . She is a partner and director of Information International , a Beirut-based research company founded by her husband Jawad Adra. In office since January 21, 2020, she is the country's first deputy prime minister and defense minister. Akar is a representative of the Greek Orthodox community and was appointed by the President and the Free Patriotic Movement .

During the Ministry of Defense handover ceremony on January 23, 2020, the new Defense Minister underscored the importance of the Lebanese people's right to protest and pressure the government . Her main tasks include a. fighting corruption and recovering stolen money. Regarding her ability to lead the Ministry of Defense, and hence the Lebanese army, she found that the post of Minister of Defense was more of a logistical administrative task than a military role.

After Hassan Diab resigned as Prime Minister on August 10, 2020, the Minister remained in office until a new cabinet was formed.
