The Zeitschrift für Musikwissenschaft was a musicological specialist journal that was published from 1918 to 1935 by Breitkopf & Härtel , Leipzig. The publisher was the German Music Society or German Society for Musicology.

The editor-in-chief of the magazine has been the musicologist Alfred Einstein since it was first published in 1918 . During the Nazi era , he was forced to resign from the editorial office of the magazine in 1933. His successor was Max Schneider . The successor magazine was the Archive for Music Research (AfMf), which appeared from 1936 to 1943. The publisher and editor were the same as before.

NB: The Frankfurter Zeitung für Musikwissenschaft (FZMw, ISSN  1438-857X ), published from 1998 to 2011 by Wolfgang Krebs, Goethe University Frankfurt , is an unrelated magazine that has also been discontinued.
