Cell technology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As cell technique is called linking cellular biotechnology with technical systems. The technical systems can be directly or indirectly connected to the living cells. In industry it occurs as a form of bio-based production as well as related investigation and processing methods. Cell technology forms the basis for cellular examination and production processes.

In terms of process technology, cell technology deals with the culture, manipulation and analysis of cells in technical systems. The cell culture in this case represents one of the oldest forms of cell technology. Through them were first time cells are observed outside the body in the vital state.

Cell technology enables the investigation and use of cells outside of their natural environment in adherent and suspension cultures up to the cultivation of organoid bodies and tissue-like associations. The prerequisite for this is the development and production of new devices and technologies to extract living cells from the body, to multiply and manipulate them in technical systems, and to analyze and control them from the molecular, metabolic, etc. to the intercellular level.

Components of cell technology are:

  • the technical manipulation of living cells to study biological processes.
  • the production of biomolecules from cells in technical systems.
  • the production of cell mass (as raw material) for medical, nutritional or other industrial applications.
  • the production of cellular therapeutics (e.g. stem cell therapy , immune cell therapy )
  • the use of living cells in technical systems to determine the biological effects of test substances (substitute for animal experiments)
  • the development of devices and processes for the isolation, cultivation, manipulation, analysis, transport and archiving ( cryopreservation ) of living cells
